Clingmans Dome
Clingmans Dome, the tallest mountain in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is located on the Tennessee and North Carolina State line. There is an observation tower offering breathtaking views of the mountains in every direction. On clear days views can range up to 100 miles. The Clingmans Dome area is also conveniently equipped with picnic tables and restrooms. Clingmans Dome is open year round, however the road leading up to it is often closed during the winter months due to inclement weather. You can reach Clingmans dome from Gatlinburg by following Highway 441 and turning on Newfound Gap Road. You won't regret making the trip. |
